It's about time!

Well, it's about that time!  Tomorrow we leave for Atlanta and then hit the Appalachian Trail early Friday morning.  We are so excited and have been training and educating ourselves about what to expect for months now!

Our packs are loaded and ready (except for Dillan's...we'll help him with his when we get to his place tomorrow).  When we add the 2 extra bottles of water I'll be carrying, my pack should weigh around 25 lbs.  It looks like Scott's will come in at 35 lbs.  We'll only be on the trail for 3 days, so I can't imagine how much they'd weigh if we were planning to be out there for a week!

I had to actually lay out my things on the bed in Dillan's room since he's not home.  We've been storing all of our supplies in the guest room, but the OCD in me had to have a space to myself to know what I had and be able to confidently check things off my list without mass confusion.  Lord, bless me!

We wanted to start at the very beginning of the AT, so our ride will be dropping us off at the closest access point to Springer Mountain. Our plan is to hike to the Hawk Mountain shelter area, so we'll hike about 9 miles the first day.  We'll also take advantage of trails to waterfalls and any other scenic views along the way.

Our second day we'll hike about 7.5 miles, stopping at Gooch Mountain shelter.  Now, when I say "shelter", please know that we are not staying in the shelters. We're packing small tents.  I care nothing about sleeping in an open area or with strangers.....or mice!  On Sunday, our journey will end at Woody Gap, which will be about 5 miles.

It will be me, Scott, Dillan, Austin, and my Uncle Mike on the 3 day hike.  I ask that you guys remember us in your prayers that we stay safe, well, and that God would use the experience to draw us closer to one another as a family and to Him.

If I can get a phone signal, I plan on posting updates each day.  And if you're following along on my month long challenge to "Look for God in Everyday Life" over on Instagram, I'll be trying to keep that up as well.  Those posts will also appear on my personal Facebook page.

In other news, I don't have to tell y'all that it's been so busy the last few weeks!  So many families are hitting the ball fields and also getting ready for high school graduation.  My baby sister cries almost at the drop of a hat because her first born is graduating from high school this month.

I remember so well how it feels.  It's been 4 years now since Dillan graduated and moved to Atlanta.  And I ran across this in my Facebook feed yesterday:

Wow!  Only two years ago?!  Feels like so much longer!

Our local high school also had prom a couple of weeks ago.  My nephew, Evan (who is graduating this year) looked mighty handsome!  Aren't he and Ansley are so cute together?

And my niece, Autumn also went with her boyfriend, Hunter. Sweet couple!  Autumn was absolutely stunning!

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day as well.  It's so nice to have all three of my sisters living around here so we can all be together on days like that.  Thanks to iphones, we take lots of pics when we're together.  That was one thing we regretted when daddy died....too few pics of us with him.

Well, I guess I should go now.  I've got to finish up a little paperwork today and last minute things before we leave for our trip.  Thankfully, my mom will be house/dog sitting for us so we don't have to worry about Miss Lucy.

Until next week...........................
