Our home for the holidays: Christmas 2013

It's that time of the year again!  Time to make our homes cozy and warm for the winter and add the beautiful colors of Christmas cheer to enjoy during the holidays.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....I love to decorate my home for the different seasons, but decorating for Christmas is my absolute favorite!

There are so many beautifully decorated homes out there to visit in blog land (and I'll give you some links at the end of this post to view them online).  But I think it's important for us all to remember that you don't have to have lots of decorations....or even a professionally decorated house to enjoy your home for the holidays.

Your home can be small and simple or large and majestic.  What's important is the heart of your home. Does it reflect your own personal style?  Not that of others, but your own personal tastes?

I've found that surrounding yourself with the things that YOU love is the key to creating a warm and welcoming haven for your family and others....especially during the Christmas season.

With that being said, let's get started on the tour!

I've kept things pretty simple again this year.  Rudolph greets visitors at the front door.  The multi-colored Christmas ball wreath is from Target.  I love the colors with my new turquoise front door!

When you walk into the foyer, you'll find my favorite nativity scene.  I like for this to be the first thing you see....because isn't that what Christmas is all about?

I love this piece of furniture!  I bought it at an antique store when we moved into our home.  It's so versatile and great for displaying seasonal items.

Look into the living room and you'll see the Christmas tree next to the mantel.  I apologize for the lighting.  My home is very difficult to photograph in natural light due to the fact that we are surrounded by trees.  I think Santa needs to bring me a better camera too ;)

I do love a Christmas tree!
I think I'm going to get brave next year and add some festive ribbon to it.

I also love our new burlap and chevron stockings!  My mom made them for me last year.  I found the glitter initials at Walmart to hang on them .  The stockings are for our two boys and one for Lucy:)

I kept the mantel simple again this year too.....a little silver and gold.  If you click on the picture, you should be able to see it a little better).  Notice the image of the ceiling fan in the mirror...ha!)

Santa and a gingerbread man in Lucy's bed :)

A cute little elf is perched on the basket that will hold all of our Christmas cards from family and friends this season.  If I had a small child, I'd buy an Elf on the Shelf and have such a good time!

From the foyer, you can also enter the dining room.  I went with a simple live tree on the table surrounded by greenery and berries.

Part of my nutcracker collection

Looking back into the foyer from the dining room

You'll also find a little bit of Christmas spread throughout the kitchen and breakfast room.  Actually, there's a little bit of Christmas all over my house, but I won't bore you with so many pictures ;)

The pie safe holds alot of my gingerbread man collection

 More nutcrackers in the hallway

A little bit of Christmas in the hall bath

and the master bath

Take a look out the back door and you'll see a little more holiday cheer

It's a good place to enjoy a good cup of coffee on a cold morning.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.  Now let's go back inside and have a cup of cocoa from the hot chocolate station and look at the beautifully decorated homes  at  Nesting Place and Kelly's Korner.  There's so much inspiration and creativity out there!  Remember: it doesn't have to be fancy or cost alot of money to decorate and enjoy your home during the holiday season.
