A Quiet & Happy 4th!

With most of our family out of town for the July 4th holiday, Scott and I opted for a quiet celebration at home.  We slept in, had brunch, took afternoon naps, and later grilled some delicious chicken for our supper.

Earlier in the week, I had added a few final touches to my updated front porch.  Two extra pillows in red & blue for the rockers and a cute little burlap wreath for the front door :)

I wrapped a wreath form in burlap and then glued a white wooden letter "L" to one side.  I wanted to add some bright colors to compliment the newly painted door and to help celebrate summer, so I opted for a red, white, and blue theme (perfect to celebrate the 4th!).

I followed a tutorial on Pinterest and Scott helped me make fabric rosettes.  Yes, you heard me right!  Scott helped me twist and fold the fabric.....he even had a burn on one finger from the hot glue gun!  Red & white striped ribbon made the perfect hanger :)

Look who else has a similar front door!  Young House Love

And I spotted another one at I Heart Organizing

I'm in good company with my new blue door!

I LOVE the blue pillow!

I try to remember to get my American Flag out for all the flag holidays.

For dessert that night, I decided to make a Key Lime Pie.  I had never made one before, but it was super easy!   Within a few minutes, I had it chilling in the refrigerator.

one graham cracker pie crust
one can sweetened, condensed milk
1/2 cup of lime juice
8 ounces of whipped topping
Mix the juice and condensed milk until combined well

Pour into pie shell

Top with whipped cream

Chill for at least two hours

Very easy recipe....and very yummy!

Scott and I really enjoyed our day together.  It was a little strange with most of our family being out of town, but sometimes it's just nice to relax at home with the ones you love :)

I hope you all had a great 4th too!
