a blue & brown baby celebration

I had the privilege of hosting a baby shower a while back for the daughter of one of my best friends.  I love the whole process of planning events like this and I really enjoy having others in my home.  This little bundle of joy that we were honoring had already been born, and I didnt' want to use the typical baby shower themes.  So I got the idea to use a monkey theme and chose baby blue & chocolate brown as the color scheme.

This homemade table runner made by my mom was my inspiration piece.  She had this left over fabric from another project, so it didn't cost me a dime!

With a tropical feel to the fabric, I thought alot of greenery with a few potted flowers would be more appropriate on the food table than a typical fresh flower arrangement.
I already had the perfect basket on hand and blue & brown polka dotted ribbon for a cute bow.

I set up the food table in my dining room.  I began with a beige colored sheet on the table and then added the table runner for my color.  I purchased baby blue plates and napkins for extra color and we used clear plastic utensils.  My mom and sister helped me with the food, so that was easy on the "pocket book" as well.  We had typical finger foods and everything was so delicious!

Sticking with the monkey theme, I asked a friend of mine to try to make these cute monkey faced cookies I had seen online....and she did a great job!  Aren't they precious?  And they also have little blue bow ties :)

I used the table in my breakfast room to set up the punch bowl and cups.  Again, I used the baby blue color for the cups.....and provided baby size bottled water for my guests.
I added ivy around the punch bowl and another little monkey for color.....he's all ready for a swim in the punch bowl with his cute ducky float :)

I ordered the corsage from our small town florist.  Isn't it sweet with the little blue & chocolate brown bow?  I thought a little monkey would have been cute in it as well, but couldn't find one anywhere.

As you can see, this was an easy, inexpensive way to host a sweet baby shower.  I love the fact that I had a different theme than most by using the little monkeys.  By the way, those stuffed monkeys went home with the little fellow, along with all of his other gifts :)

Today, I'm linking up with Tablescape ThursdayGrace at Home, and Table Top Tuesday.  Be sure to check out these sites for alot more inspiration for your home.

Hi Lynn,
So nice of you to host your friends
daugher's shower, sure she really appreciated that. That was a cute idea to use the lil monkey's, those cookies were adorable. That fabric looks very close to what the coverlet in my master bedroom looks like.
Colors a lil different, but love the fabric. Everything looks lovely, and love the pic in your sidebar of you and your hubby. My sons name is Scott. I also love the Lord..........so we have a lot in common........
Blessings, Nellie

GOOD FOR YOU!! I love the way you made the shower so beautiful, and it's nice to know that you did it on a budget. I think lots of people shy away from hosting showers because of the expensive--but you've proved things can be lovely without spending a fortune. Love the monkeys!
