My Kitchen

My kitchen is the gathering place at our home.  You would think that the comfy couch or a recliner would make a better place to hang out with family and friends, but we always wind up sitting around the kitchen table or bar.

I guess it's because we love to eat!  We also love to drink coffee.....not much better than friendly conversation with a fresh cup of coffee :)

It's not a "designer" kitchen, but I love it!  When we built the house four years ago, I knew I wanted solid surface counter tops and glazed cabinets....and that's what I got :)

My cabinets are maple with a glaze to give them an aged appearance.  The counter tops are Silestone (solid surface).  I have not regretted these two choices.

Although I love the look of ceramic tile on the floor, I don't like the coldness to my bare feet.  I found this linoleum with the look of tile, but more affordable - and it's not cold :)

I'm not a big fan of all stainless appliances, so we chose black.  And I must say, choosing to mount the microwave above the range was a great decision!  It frees up a ton of counter space!

This little corner area sees alot of action!

Across the room from the kitchen sink is this little desk area.  It's nestled in between the refrigerator and the pantry.  This is where I do most of my blogging (and bill paying).  I'm on the look-out for the perfect desk chair for this area.

A long bar separates the kitchen from the breakfast room.  The dining room is opposite this eating area, so when we have large crowds, everyone still feels connected.  My mom made the beautiful black & white toile curtains you see.  I saw something similar in a magazine and loved them.  I didn't have a pattern, but being the awesome seamstress she is, mama made them for me :)

The end of the bar is a perfect place to do seasonal decorating.

I also use this pie safe to display my "pretties".  I swap it up quite a bit depending on the season.

I love this old planter.  I found it at a local flea market years ago.  It holds my cookbook collection as well as a few items on top, like Lucy's doggie treat jar :)  Above it, a shelf displays part of my chicken collectibles.

I'm joining Kelly's Korner for Show Us Your Life: Kitchens.
