It's Here!

My "Siesta Scripture Memory Team" index cards!
Woo Hoo!!!

Ok. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, it has nothing to do with taking a nap and scripture.  Well, it does have something to do with scriptures....let me explain:

I'm a HUGE fan of Beth Moore! That woman has taught me so much about how to apply God's Word to my life.  She's my mentor - even though I've never met her.

Since I'm a 'blogger', it's only natural for me to follow Beth's blog at http://www.lproof.org/.  We are all 'siestas' there in blog world.  'Siesta' came about as a typo when Beth was referring to us as her sisters.  The nickname stuck and that's what we call ourselves.

Anyway, if you know anything about Beth Moore, you know how important scripture is to her.  A few years ago, she decided to form the Scripture Memory Team so that we could help hold each other accountable to memorizing scripture each month.  We choose two verses every month, on the 1st and 15th, and write them in a spiral to keep handy for memorization.  Then we post them on the blog for others to see.  It's a neat way to see hundreds,or thousands of verses right at your fingertips.  And it also helps hold us accountable having to report in.

I'm probably not doing the explanation justice, so you can check it out for yourself if you'd like on her blog.

The spiral that you see in the picture is something new and created by LPM for the Siestas to use this year to record our verses to keep them handy.  We're not required to have one, but it's so neat knowing we have one just alike!

Here's my first verse for 2011:

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."     Deut. 31:8 NIV

With everything I was dealing with at the first of this year with the mammogram scare, I wanted to choose a verse that would remind me that Jesus is always there for me - no matter what.

Here's an idea: if you'd like to memorize scripture this year and you aren't interested in actually blogging, check out my verses twice a month.  And if you'd like to, comment on my posts each month with a scripture of your own.  We can help hold each other accountable as well :)
