Cast Your Cares

"Cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you" Psalm 55:22

I like to compare these instructions to fishing. But I hate to fish! I don't want to have to go to the trouble to bait a hook, fight to keep the worm on the hook, fan the flies, wait on the fish to bite, or to clean the fish. I just want to sit down to the table when they're ready and enjoy them with hot cheese grits and french fries! And of course, sweet tea!

God's Word tell us to cast all of our cares on Him because He cares for us. I thought about what it means to cast something - like a net. You have to throw the net into the water. You can't just drop it and be effective, but you have to throw it with force, hurl it!

I think that's what Jesus meant when He told us what to do with our cares, our worries, and anxieties.......... hurriedly throw them to Him. He can definitely handle the load! Don't just say, "Well, I guess I'll give them to Him" and hesitate to even do it! He wants the load.

We don't need to hang on to those old nets for a second. If we do, we'll get weighed down by their size. It's the same way when I have a problem and I let it get to me. That's what I'm doing. I'm holding my net, focusing on the size of it and wondering how in the world I'll get it out to deep waters.

It's my prayer that this verse will come to mind quickly in times of trouble. An empty net never does us any good. I want my net full of fish.......... and of course, I want them filleted, golden fried, and just waiting on me!

Maybe my next prayer is to be freed from wanting things instantly!
