New Year - New Opportunities

Can someone please tell me where 2008 went? I can't believe how fast the year has gone by! As I sit and reflect about the events of this past year, I am reminded of the tradition of making those New Year Resolutions - most of which I do not keep.

I always start out the new year with passion and eagerness to accomplish the personal goals I make for myself. But something happens after the first few weeks - it's called the business of life. I believe that the mundane tasks of each day are one of Satan's favorite ways to distract us and to keep us from seeking God's Will for our lives on a daily basis. For example, I awake most mornings refreshed and eager to start my day. I use my ride to work as a time to talk with God, sing praises, and think about the things that He's speaking to me. So many times, I have ideas come to mind for this ministry or thoughts of something I need to do for someone in need. But once I'm off work, run errands, and get back home (only to do more work) I don't seem to be as enthusiastic about the same things the Lord spoke to me that morning. I think we get so bogged down in daily living that we don't always make the time to do the things we really want to do.

In light of all of this, I'm making just ONE New Year's Resolution for 2009 - to grow closer to the Lord and strengthen that relationship. I plan to do this by studying His Word daily, memorizing 2 scriptures each month, and by talking with him more often each day. I'm sure as I do this, He will present more opportunities for me to witness to others.

By the way, I'm going to try to eat healthier and exercise more this year too. What are your resolutions for the New Year?
